Inspirational Commercials


These kinds of commercials that cause inspirational feelings but do not really inspire us to do anything really grab people's attention. It is just that feeling of excitement that the words of Pioneers, O Pioneers gives young people. If the commercial grabs attention most of the job is done the only other part that needs to happen is the viewer needs to be made aware of what is being advertised.

Tiger Woods Endorsements

Tiger Woods lost a few endorsements when his sex scandal surfaced. Though the biggest one, Nike stayed with him. I think they made a good choice. The scandal is now just a thing of the past and the jokes for the most part have ended. Woods is still one of the best players out there and is still respected in the golfing Community. Most importantly he is still a household name. This is the best part of endorsing someone, whenever the person who is doing the endorsement is mentioned the companies they endorse are thought of or mentioned.

Print Advertising Popularity

Print advertising these days has a huge disadvantage when it comes to popularity. It is not as easy to spread magazine and especially newspaper ads around the internet as it is with videos. I don't think I've ever heard of a picture going viral on the internet but commercials do all the time. I think this will cause print advertising to continually become cheaper and cheaper.

New Cheetos Commercials


The new Cheetos commercials with Chester Cheetah I feel have brought back a lot of attention to the snack food. Though it never really went away it seemed to be in the back of everyone's mind. These new commercials even though they do not talk about the taste or quality of the food have gotten a lot of attention. The commercials are actually entertaining and have people talking about "those Cheetos commercials".

Carousel


Carousel is an award winning commercial that I just took the time to take a look at. By itself it is not much of an advertisement but is truly enjoyable to watch and really grabs attention. I'm certain that when it was put on a website that actually explained what it was advertising, it must have been quite an ad to see.

Fear

Fear is one of the easiest ways to sell something to someone. It is in almost every advertisement. It is not always obvious but it is behind what is perceived to be the main idea. Many examples of this are fear of body odor, being left out, being alone or not being cool. As they say sex sells, but I believe the fear of being sexless sells a lot better than just sex.

I'm Riding a Horse


This commercial is by far one of my favorites. It is a perfect example of how to properly use comedy in a TV ad. It not only uses the humor to attract you but the humor is the medium used to get the advertisements point across. Many advertisements have ads that are funny and then throw information out in the last few seconds. When this is done many people just remember the humor and are left thinking "what was that for anyway?".

Memorable Advertisements

Advertisements like the snickers commercial that claim you are not yourself when you're hungry get many people to talk about them. This makes the commercials memorable and in turn gets people to think of the product more often. This most likely increases the number of times people purchase snickers when they buy candy.

Common Sense

Many bad advertisements make it to T.V. all the time and many people finish watching them and ask "what was that for?". These advertisements aren't bad because they had a low budget or bad actors. They were horrible because they focused too much on trying to be funny and grab attention to remember to make it obvious what is actually being advertised. This is a very unfortunate mistake for companies and advertisement firms to make since advertising costs millions of dollars these days.

Public Eye

When owners, CEO's, Presidents, or heads of companies are always in the public eye their actions affect the sales of their products and sometimes whether their stocks will rise or fall. Steve Jobs for instance is rumored to be sick and one report has claimed that he only has six weeks to live. Apple's stock has already dropped 1.3 percent and if evidence appears to back these claims it will probably fall further. This may only affect stocks but some people loyal to the Apple brand and ipods may become skeptical of future products. If Steve Jobs dies Apple will have to find someone who can do the same for the public and convince them just as easily to buy Apple's products. Otherwise for the first time in years Apple may lose its lead in the world of MP3 players.
This is basically an endorsement situation but the CEO has decided that instead of spending money on someone to have them use the product he will just endorse himself. Unfortunately it is much harder to switch over to a new face or figure especially with someone who is described as a titan.

Scott Walker

Twitter is a phenomena that many people still don't understand and can be used to advertise many things. A big example of this is people's opinion about Wis. Governor Scott Walker (R). Over the last few days more and more people have become aware of what it is he is trying to accomplish in Wisconsin. Many people are very upset, anyone currently on Twitter knows this.
Obviously this is not what most people consider advertising but as i said before Twitter has provided us with a completely new way to advertise. We can advertise almost anything. Many people who use the site talk about their daily routine, things they are excited about, their opinions, or information they desire the world to know about. And just like commercial advertisements everyone on Twitter competes for attention and many people go unnoticed by the vast majority. And this is true for whatever the size of a person's Twitter account is. Even people who only tweet to their friends sometimes go ignored and are beat out by other friends. Certain celebrities get more attention then others and even big advertisers sometimes get beat out by companies that are more aware of how to use Twitter.

Walking Advertisements

Most people on any given day are wearing at least one advertisement and they most likely paid for it. Today i myself have worn five advertisements. I am currently wearing Nike shoes, an RVCA hat, a UW Oshkosh sweatshirt and have next to me an Ogio backpack. Earlier today I was also wearing a pair of Oakley sunglasses. I was advertising for five companies and they didn't even pay me for it. This is the cheapest and one of the best ways companies advertise for themselves. Whenever we look at other people we look at what they are wearing and if we like that person and think that they're cool we think the same way about their clothes and accessories. Obviously if someone wearing a certain brand isn't seen as nice or cool the clothes they're wearing will be associated with that view. This is why just putting your company logo on your product isn't enough (but is still a good idea) and sometimes ad's are needed to reinforce ideas about them. Ad's also help people forget about any negative experiences they've had with the product or others that wear or use it.

Self Advertising

Advertising is changing all the time. I'm sure other journalism students hear this during almost every class. One of the ways it has changed that I feel most people haven't realized is how people are starting to use media to advertise themselves. We see this on media sources like Youtube, Twitter, blogs, and Lookbook. Many people don't even realize they are doing this but there are those who have caught on and are making cheap imitations of those that have already profited from this. Which makes it hard to sort out what is and what is not worth while.
